PEI still the magical island of Canada

Just got back from a ten day Atlantic Canada trip that took us to Grand Falls NB (my mom's hometown and the roots of my McCooey family relatives) for a couple of days and to Brackley Beach PEI for eight days. We left Brackley at 7.15 AM PEI time yesterday and landed back in Toronto just before 1 AM today, for a nineteen hour drive (allowing for the hour you gain on the way home), a one day sojourn that was near impossible in the days before the Confederation Bridge.

We had Trainor Reunions in Charlottetown / Brackley in 1967 and Charlottetown / Cavendish / York in 1989 and this 2010 Charlottetown / New Glasgow / Rustico / Brackley / York version was also a milestone holiday. Many thanks to my cousin Mary Lou Vessey and her husband Lowell who organized a series of super fun events for about 60 Trainor Clan family members, relatives and friends.

After our Grand Falls visit (we had a cottage at the idyllic Lakeside Lodge), we drove on to PEI and stayed at Millstream Cottages in Brackley Beach PEI and the place is fantastic. My cousins were mostly at Rustico Resort and Edgewood Cottages and as always, PEI served up a wondrous setting for many nights around the campfire, where I practiced my Muse covers and my new version of Won't Get Fooled Again, in addition to the usual Dylan / Young / Prine -ish folk rock standards.

If you ever get a chance to go to PEI, go. Having been fortunate to go many times as a child and several more times as an adult, this dream comfort memory land is a tonic for the soul.

Peace 2 All,

Joe
