Living at 12 Hebert with my girlfriend Colleen, Quebec was the first place where I went from being a street performer to getting gigs in folk clubs and bars. These were one nighters and didn't always go spectacularly but playing a repertoire that included Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Cat Stevens and other great songwriters was appreciated by the local clientele. I remember one time street singing on Rue Saint Jean, and we performed Norwegian Wood and a couple of other tunes as a trio (2 guitars including close friend Jamie McGuinty, 3 voices including a Quebec City friend) and made about $20 in 10 minutes.
I would like to expand this post to include lots of great days in Quebec and even PEI, from 1978 through to 1981. Bread and cheese and wine and beer, great music, wonderful women...ahhh, Quebec was my Paris, my Europe, my lil slice of the Old World just a long day's hitchhike away from my hometown of Burlington.
